On 8th October 2010, Agrasen Jayanti will be celebrated. Agrasen jayanti is the birth anniversary celebrations of a legendary Indian king Maharaj Agrasen. The most popular king of Agroha is none other than Agrasen and it was from him that Agrawal and Agrahari clans originated. Agrasen jayanti is observed on the fourth day of Ashwin month of Hindu calendar.
Following is the portrayal of whole life of maharaja Agrasen:
Early Life:
Emperor Agrasena was the son of King Vallabh of Pratapnagar. His father belonged to Suryavamsh Kshtriya dynasty and his birth dates back to the last stages of Dwapar yuga. According to the current calendar, the Maharaj Agrasen was born about 5185 years ago. Maharaj Agrasena was known for his qualities of compassion from his babyhood. He never discriminated against anyone and had an equal vision of all.
Agrasen attended the Swayamvara of Madhavi , the daughter of the King Nagraj during his youth. Madhavi chose him as her husband among many princes, including Indra, who came for her because she influenced by his extraordinary qualities. This marriage merged Suryavamshi and Naagvamsi tribes who they had 18 children.
The Great Penance:
Agrasen waged war against Indra because after rejection Indra became jealous of him and stopped supplying water in his kingdom. Narada muniwas very sympathetic towards everyone and approached both of them to negotiate peace. He told Argasen to forgive Indra and start self-punishment to please Lord Shiva. Agrasen started severe self-punishment and Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked him to perform Mahalaskhmi vrata.
Great penance to please Goddess Lakshmi was taken up by Agrasen. Lakshmi devi urged him to take up the Vaishya tradition of business for the prosperity of his descendants on being pleased with his penance. To establish a kingdom on his name and promised him that she will be blessing his descendants with wealth and prosperity, Goddess Lakshmi asked him. He established his kingdom which flourished wonderfully when he went to place near Haryana. He proclaimed that there would be no violence and animal slaughter in his kingdom.

In Haryana Agrasena jayanti is celebrated by people of Agrawal clan. Descendants of Agrasena busy themselves in social welfare activities on this day. They also provide free medical camps, food distribution and cultural functions to spread the message of equality and brotherhood. Agrasen is honored by them for his ideals in life and try to follow his footsteps.
