Facebook.com en español - Facebook in Spanish

Facebook unveiled a Spanish version of its hot social-networking website and had promised for French and German language editions by spring February or March 2010. You are informed here what is included in Spanish version of Facebook. See below the home page of facebook.com in Spanish.

On Wednesday 3rd February, a software application made freely obtainable which lets people to choose for Spanish instructions, alerts, news feeds and other information provided by Facebook as part of the user interface. Bits of the website can be asked by users which are then voted on by other users until a good localized version is created.

Facebook vice president of strategy and operations Matt Cohler told AFP, "The beauty of the system is that it can extend to every language possible". However the framework for the website was only in English, Facebook users have always been able to post profiles, messages or other content in their native languages.

Spanish website for the first time allows hispanohablantes anywhere to sign up as well as browse the website in their inhabitant language. Now anyone on Facebook can set their account and select a language for sending invitation to their friends.

This launch made most remarkable is that the website was translated by the Facebook community using an application developed through Facebook. Although similar collaborative methods, the dynamic nature of the website, and the variety and richness of the content have been used by other translation projects and made this project all the more challenging.

People were excited about this launch as a native hispanohablante and ingeniero in the internationalization team. When they fine-tuned the application, within the week they received great feedback from the community of translators. It was great to see the translators engage in lively and fervent discussions as to what the best translations should be for certain words and phrases.

In "private beta" modes, French and German versions of the website are being tested and by the end of March should be rolled out according to Cohler. Cohler said "We are really excited," and "We are starting to see the results and they're great ... the translations are getting done really quickly and accurately." They are making the website even more useful for them to connect with all of their friends and they have posted notifications to allow these users know they can invite their amigos hispanohablantes to join Facebook.

Facebook says that just in less than four weeks the Spanish website was completed and is based on the work of nearly 1,500 Spanish-speaking Facebook users. The default language will be auto set to Spanish, if you visit Facebook from a Spanish-prevalent country starting next week. The default language to Spanish can also be changed by users in their account settings.

Unprecedented opportunity is offered by Facebook and the Facebook Platform to engage users in their authentic social environment online for Spanish and Latin American brand marketers, advertisers, and application developers. Tremendous growth throughout South America, Europe, and Latin American markets in North America was seen by Facebook throughout the last year.
