Around the world, Muslims start to fast as Ramadan that begins on 11th August, 2010. The word Ramadan is come from the Arabic root word Ramida. The original meaning of the word was "scorching heat". According to Islamic calendar, Ramadan is the ninth month of the year. It is supposed by Muslims that the Holy book Quran was sent down from heaven during the month of Ramadan as guidance for men and also as a direction and a means to Salvation.
In the whole month of Ramadan, Muslims do fast with believe of devoting their soul to god and withdrawing themselves from the schedule of life. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. During the fast, participating Muslims avoid eating, drinking and sexual activities from sunrise until sunset for the 30 days. Fasting is considered as one of the pillars of Islam. There are five pillars of Islam which are mentioned below:
- Reciting the two-fold Creed (Shahada) (profession of faith) - 'There is no God but Allah' and 'Muhammad is his prophet' (or 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God')
- Prayer (salat) - At five set-times a day while facing towards the city of Mecca.
- Alms-giving (sakat) (zakat - means 'purification', an act of worship) -obligatory and voluntary giving to the poor.
- Fasting (saum) - Especially during the 'holy' month of Ramadan
- Pilgrimage (hajj) - At least once in a lifetime - to Mecca, Saudi Arabia if at all possible, known as The Hajj

and mouthwatering pakoras,
